AlphaLISA technology allows the detection of molecules of interest in buffer, cell culture media, serum and plasma in a highly sensitive, quantitative, reproducible and user-friendly mode. In an AlphaLISA assay, a Biotinylated Anti-Analyte Antibody binds to the Streptavidin-coated Alpha Donor beads, while another Anti-Analyte Antibody is conjugated to AlphaLISA Acceptor beads. In the presence of the analyte, the beads come into close proximity. The excitation of the Donor beads provokes the release of singlet oxygen molecules that triggers a cascade of energy transfer in the Acceptor beads, resulting in a sharp peak of light emission at 615 nm.

C-reactive Protein (CRP) is a 224 Amino-Acid serum protein present in a homopentameric form. The function of CRP is to bind phosphocholines expressed by dead and dying cells to activate the complement system. In response to infection, inflammation, or tissue damage, IL6, IL1, and glucocorticoids induce the production of CRP in the liver. Elevated CRP levels have been identified with acute and chronic inflammatory conditions in general, various types of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart disease where the American Heart Association has defined levels of risk based upon CRP levels. Due to CRPs altered expression levels in these diseases, it is a highly valuable biomarker to monitor immune system response. This kit has been designed for the detection of CRP in cynomolgus and rhesus monkey serum and cell culture supernatants.
